Weeks of Supply Calculator & Stock Coverage Planner formulas

Weeks of supply = available units ÷ expected weekly unit demand. Days of supply = weeks × 7. Required cover days = lead days + buffer days. The unit target rounds upward because this worksheet treats stock as whole units.

Worked example with fictional data

120 available units at 30 units per week give 4 weeks, or 28 days, of coverage. A 21-day lead time and 7-day chosen buffer require 28 days of cover: ceil(30 ÷ 7 × 28) = 120 units. The example therefore sits exactly at its chosen target, with no unit gap.

Choose Load fictional example above to reproduce these results. Sample records are illustrative and are not a recommended target or policy.

Review the result before acting

Review each SKU separately. A fast-selling item with one week of cover cannot be protected by another item with twenty weeks. If your sales period includes a promotion or a stockout, adjust the demand assumption using evidence before relying on the result. The buffer is chosen by you; the tool does not calculate statistical safety stock.

What the planner does not cover

This is a steady-demand snapshot, not a sales forecast or purchase recommendation. It does not include stock on order, seasonality, minimum order quantities or stock lost to new reservations. A zero weekly demand returns “Not estimable”, not infinite certainty. Coverage values are not averaged across unrelated SKUs.

Save, restore and export

Add entry creates another record. Edit any field directly or use Remove entry to delete a row. Changing inputs clears the previous report so it cannot be mistaken for current results. Choose Calculate / review results again when your changes are ready.

Save on this device keeps an editable worksheet in this browser only. On a later visit in this browser, your saved worksheet loads automatically. Restore device save can also reload the last save after you confirm replacement. Saving drafts is allowed, but a report requires valid, complete inputs. Download backup creates a versioned JSON file for the same tool. Import backup shows the worksheet label and row count before replacing current work; it does not change the device save until you press Save.

Download CSV exports the settings, summary, row details and calculation notes. CSV is for spreadsheet review; it cannot restore this worksheet. Print / Save PDF recalculates the current entries and opens your browser’s print dialog. Choose Save as PDF where supported. The report excludes navigation, guides and product CTAs. Clear data removes the current worksheet and its device save after confirmation; keep a backup first if needed.

Use a personal browser for private records and keep important backups separately. Entered worksheet fields are not included in our planner-action analytics.

On Android Chrome, device save stays in the same browser. Keep a JSON backup for portability. For PDF, use the browser print dialog and choose Save as PDF when available; printer and share menus vary by device. Physical phone behavior depends on the device and is not certified by desktop browser tests.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as inventory turnover?

No. Coverage estimates how long current sellable units last at your entered weekly rate. It does not calculate annual turnover.

What happens when weekly demand is zero?

Coverage is not estimable. The row asks you to review its demand assumption instead of displaying a misleading finite duration.

Does the target gap include incoming orders?

No. Review open orders separately before using the gap in a purchasing decision.

Is it free, and where is my information saved?

The worksheet is free without an account. Save on this device uses this browser’s storage; clearing browser data can remove it. Download a JSON backup for editable recovery. There is no cloud sync or automatic monitoring. CSV and PDF are reports and cannot restore the worksheet.
